Installing Ubuntu With Vista

I'm posting this here thinking that this will help a quite a few of you..

This post is about installing the Linux based OS Ubuntu with Vista pre-installed in your computer.

Before i explain these steps I'd love to tell you a bit about Ubuntu.
This linux based Os released its latest version on April 08 and is named Hardy Heron.
Ubuntu means "Humanity to others".

Its free to obtain , free to use and modify or redistribute.!

They will send a cd to your home which can be used to install Ubuntu or it can be used as an Live cd.!

yes you can use this OS just like seeing a movie by inserting a CD.!

And one more intresting with Ubuntu is comes pre-installed with almost all softwares you need. An office pack to reading a PDF file or a media player..and compressor..

Its all u need. You can also get affitional softwares in just a single click for free.!

Now lets see how to install Ubuntu with Vista installed in it..

These steps are lik jist 1..2..3..


1.Prepare the Vista partition.

*Right clik on computer -->click manage.
*Then click on Disk Management.
*Then right on the Disk you want to shrink.
*I prefer shrinking the disk other than where Vista is installed.
*Now click on the POP-UP menu that appears.
*Make sure that the disk have a minimum capacity of 10GB.



2.Now you are ready to install Ubuntu in your system.

*Insert the cd in the dru=ive and reboot the system.
*It will give you various options. Select Install Ubuntu.
*If you want to use the live Cd option select USe Ubuntu without disturbing the computer.
*Now in the screen presented, Select the language and click Forward.
*Next select your location.And then click forward.
*Now select the Keyboard layout you want.
*The next one is more important.
*This is for preparing your Disk space for installing Ubuntu 8.04.
Click on guided - Use largest continuous free space.
*This will install Ubuntu int Disk partition we created earlier in Vista.!
*Then give your name n Password for Logging in after installing Ubuntu.
*The migrate documents window select the documents which you want to migrate from Vista.If no option is seen to be given don worry,just skip it.This is appearing cause Ubuntu knows that Vista is installed in your system.
*Now click Forward/Install.
*The installation progress will start.This will typically take 25 mins.
*Thats it.Installation is complete.


3.Now your system will reboot.

*Now you will see a screen asking u to select the OS to boot from.
*Select the first option for Ubuntu i.e., Ubuntu Hardy generic.
*This is done cause Ubuntu automatically Loads the GRUB loader when its installing.
*Now, Login and enjoy the Power of humanity.

Continuing with my posts on text related softwares, I'd love to introduce the "Universal Document Converter".This is actually a Plug-in program.

FOXIT.!

Having discussed a bit about tha Anti-Virus softwares, I guess its time to switch over.. Im now going to elaborate about the Foxit reader.

Well...

Many wonder what is this Foxit Reader? Its a pdf document viewer. But it carries many more feautures than what Adobe Reader does..

Yes.. Thats true.Off late a new version of FOxit has been released and been named Fooxit 2.3..

Lets see now what are the catching features in Foxit 2.3.

*Multi tab browsing
*Auto-scroll
*Comment box
*Converting to PDF

Lets see each of these a bit more.

1. Bookmarking allows to Bookmark any PDF file provided the security of that file allows us to in the same way you Bookmark your favourite Web-site.

2. Media Format support is what attrcted me in Foxit! Yes it can support a no. of Media formats including Audio and video.

3. Multi Tab browsing can be done and more than one file can be accessed at any time.

4. Auto scroll allows the user to run through the document without his interface.

5. Comment box lets us leave comment for further reference in every document.This feature makes it more user-friendly. You can leave comments whereever you want for future reference

6. Converting to PDF is another catching tool in Foxit.! We have to install a add-on for it though.!

Lot to use - which one to choose

Here I put in all my views and ideas on the choosing from the best anti virus softwares.

I ll start up with Norton.

Norton

I ve tried Norton for a year. I ve found it the best int the business.. It has got a great user interface. simple to handle even for a novice in computer. It has the maximum capacity to heal your Dear viruses.
What else it can also defragment your disk and also back your files up.

But the drawback with Norton is that its slows down your computer quiet considerably. So, i opted not to get any further with the software.

AVG

Next i ve tried both the free and paid versions of AVG 8.0.
AVG has got a relatively less user friendly environment.
It has also got a good data base and updates.

The link scanner and the resident shield are quiet powerfull tools.
If your system has no internet connection at all, I advice you to go for AVG free 8.0.

AVAST
But i m dissatisfied with the way AVG interacts with me. So, i opted for AVAST Home free edition.



I'd say im rather attracted towards Avast! It has a quiet brilliant User Interface..
Voice based Interfaces makes it easy to understand.
Right now im using Avast free Home edition.
But i ll say it is not as strong as Norton or AVG.

I also dint find anything more powerful than these three. So, im limiting my topics to these three softwares.

Well...
Having said about all the three softwares. One will be confused on which one to choose..

Well i ve got a different idea..

My advice is to get the free edition of Avast home from the link provided above and Install a free Norton security scan..

Yes, its a suprise for u all.. You can download and install free Norton Pc scan from GOOGLE PACK ! BUt it doesn't provide real tome protection. Instead we can use Avast for our real time protection and use the powerful Norton whenever u suspect there is s a virus in your system..

HOW IT WORKS?


Well..

Since this is my first post in this blog,

I'd love to start it with Anti-virus softwares.
Anti-virus are nothing but a doctor for your PC, but it prevents diseases rather than giving medicine. Well it also gives medicines, but its prime function is to prevent.

I've tried quiet a lot of softwares..

Starting from Norton to Mcafee...

But I've learnt a lot wen I started using those..

First let's see how a anti-virus program work.!

An anti virus is a collection of Information about the various viruses present around the globe and how it works!

An anti virus can sense a virus and it can easily distinguish it from other genuine softwares which dont contain any mallicious programs.

When right click on a file or folder an give a scan,

An anti-virus program literally runs the selected obect in background safely without affecting your system.

And compares it with its Data-base of viruses and its performance.

If it finds that both are matching in some means it alerts the user to take the necessary action..

But the anti-virus data base differs from one anti-virus program to other.

All Anti-virus provides free updates of this virus data-base to keep their users safe.!
